Utility Model Internationally

Protection for utility models may also be applied for outside of Finland. This is, naturally, only possible in countries where a system granting utility models the protection of registration exists; for instance, of the Nordic countries only Finland and Denmark have implemented a statutory system of utility model rights.

Protection abroad is applied for in the same way as patents. International utility model applications are also subject to a priority period of 12 months from the date of the first application.
