    Application for Registration of Layout-Designs

    Applications for registration of layout-designs are filed with the Finnish Patent and Registration Office. The application consists of an application letter and the relevant attachments.

    The application letter must include:

    1. signature of the applicant or the representative, as applicable;

    2. name, domicile and address of the applicant;

    3. name, domicile and address of the representative, if applicable;

    4. the year during which the layout-design was created, and the name and address of the creator. If the creator is not a Finnish national or does not have a permanent place of residence in Finland, the nationality and place of permanent residence of the creator must be mentioned;

    5. date of first publication of the layout-design, if it has been published before the application for registration was made;

    6. short name of the layout-design;

    7. confirmation regarding the layout-design being a result of creative and original intellectual work which has not been directly copied from another layout-design;

    8. list of attachments of the applications.

    The following shall be attached to the application letter:

    1. necessary material for identification of the layout-design;

    2. power of attorney, if applicable;

    3. clarification regarding the applicant’s right to apply for registration, if the applicant is not the creator of the layout-design.

    Statutory exclusive right to a layout-design of an integrated circuit can be granted to:

    1. the creator of the layout-design if he/she is a Finnish national or has his/her permanent place of residence in Finland;

    2. a transferee of the right to the layout-design, if that person or entity is a Finnish national or has his/her permanent place of residence or business in Finland;

    3. the creator or transferee of the layout-design, if the layout-design has been made public for the first time in Finland;

    4. a person or entity to whom the rights mentioned in sections 1 to 3 above have been transferred.
