    Part-Time Work in General

Part-time work generally means work where the employee’s working hours are agreed to be shorter than the regular working hours.

Working Hours Act does not give an employee a unilateral right to shorten the regular working hours agreed upon. The law does not prevent the employer and employee from agreeing on other part-time work in the employment contract or during the employment relationship. This section focuses specifically on the employee's right to part-time work and agreeing on part-time work.

The employer is entitled to change the employment relationship unilaterally into a part-time relationship on the termination grounds referred to in Employment Contracts Act’s chapter 7. Employer’s right to unilaterally shorter an employee's working hours is handled in more detail in article [Shifting to Part-Time Work]. Shortening the working hours is further handled in section [Lay-offs].
