    Other Short Term Absences

    Military service does not disrupt the employment relationship. The same rule applies to peacekeeping missions for the United Nations. Only the payment of salary and the employee’s obligation to undertake work are suspended.

    Other reasons for absences may e.g. be the death and funeral of a near relative, weddings, moving and 50th and 60th birthdays. There are no legislative provisions in respect of paying salary during these absences or the legitimacy of them, but they are determined in accordance with collective bargaining agreements and company practice.
