Terms of Employment Contracts in General
The employment contract often sets out the terms of the employment relationship, which the parties agree to comply with. It is recommended to agree on the terms as precisely as possible. If the parties at a later stage disagree on the terms, it may be difficult to establish what was exactly agreed. The extent of the contract depends on the employee’s duties responsibilities and the employer’s field of activity. Neither party can unliterally change the agreed terms.
The Finnish Employment Contracts Act does not specify the content of an employment contract, but it is recommended that the contract contains the same matters that the employer would otherwise have to provide the employee with a written statement. See further [Written Information on the Principal Terms of Work].
In addition, the employment contract should be dated and signed by both parties. It is recommended to draw up two identical copies of the employment contract, one to be retained by the employer and the other by the employee.
