    The Finnish Building Code

The Finnish Building Code is the big brother of the municipal building ordinance, where nationwide unified technical orders and instructions are given, which the municipalities’ building ordinances execute locally.

The Finnish Building Code’s orders concern the construction of new buildings. Unless otherwise specifically prescribed by the regulations, they are applicable to renovation and alteration work only in so far as the type and extent of the measure and a possible change in use of the building or part thereof. The provisions directing building are designed to be as flexible as possible taking into account buildings’ special features. In actions that require a permit, compliance with the Finnish Building Code's orders are controlled in the permit procedures.
