Public Investment Activities
The Finnish Innovation Fund, Sitra, is an independent fund governed by public law. Sitra is accountable to the Finnish Parliament, and its tasks have been statutorily defined. Sitra makes investments in both domestic and international businesses and investment funds. In addition, Sitra provides financing for research, educational activities and innovations. The financing is in particular targeted at the early stages of businesses’ activities in the form of so-called seed and start-up financing. Sitra focuses in its investment activities on new business areas, where supply of private funding is smaller due to greater investment risks.
Finnish Industry Investment Ltd (TeSi) is a government-owned investment company, which falls within the authority of the Ministry of Employment and the Economy. TeSi’s objective is to promote the growth and internationalization of Finnish businesses through capital investments in investment funds and directly in target companies.
Business Finland Venture Capital Ltd invests in venture capital funds which invest in companies in their early stages of development. The purpose of the company is to develop Finland’s venture capital market. Business Finland Venture Capital Ltd is a state-owned company; ownership steering is the responsibility of Business Finland.
